The Construction or Pre-Light Experience:
The Rocky Patel 1961 Robusto was one of many cigars to make its debut at the 2009 International Premium Cigar& Pipe Retailers show. This limited edition cigar gained its “1961n title from the birthday of Rocky himself. As to be expected from a perfectionist such as Rocky, the construction of this cigar is immaculate. The top, for those of you who fans, is a triple cap. Moving down the cigar is immaculate with no sign of any soft spots or veins. The most unique feature of this cigar is the band. This limited productions cigar sports a double band. The primary band is black with a hint of watermarking, giving it a texture akin to wallpaper, that possesses the “1961″ insignia which is placed over a half-tone tobacco plant. The secondary band is fixed fast behind the primary and features a beautiful red shimmer with the “Rocky Patel” label. The smell of the wrapper is nothing to boast about. From the tip comes a smell of sweetness and cocoa. The foot smells much the same but with an added hint of grain and turpentine. However, one must remember never to judge a book by it’s cover.
